Recent Activities

HDCG is currently undertaking Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) programs in the most far off and poor villages of Nepal namely Bung, Cheskam, Gudel and Baku…(please add names if more) with high indigenous populations. HDCG facilitates the process of providing funds to different community organizations (COs) who solicit proposals to PAF based on their needs. We have to add how many Cos have so far received these funds .

Conservation

• Trained member from 20 community forest user groups in forest management and conducted forest plantation program on 612ha. of bare land.

• Introduced improved stove to reduce fuel wood consumption by 40-50% per year.

• Installed solar energy in 133 households of 4 VDCs.

• Initiated High Altitude Wetlands conservation in Dudhkunda and Salpa Pokhari areas and trained local communities and conservation groups on wetlands management skills knowledge.

Education

• In order to initiate the process of empowering women, 12 women groups were formed in 3 VDCs viz; Bung, Chheskam and Gudel. All the group went through basic and advance literacy courses.

• Conducted “Go to School” program for children above 12 those who could not receive opportunities due to poor economic conditions of their families.

• Conducted environment education in schools

Enterprise

• Conducted alternative income generating activities such as handicraft development trainings, veterinary programs, cook and lodge management trainings, allo processing and product development trainings.

• Conducted trainings on NTFPs management in community forest areas and medicinal plants cultivation on over 5 ha.  private land.

• Conducted saving and credit programs in which over 1200 people of 500 households were benefited.

Basic Infrastructure

• Facilitated and provided technical support in infrastructure development such as suspension bridge construction, drinking water supply, trail maintenance and construction, school building construction and library material support.

Health and sanitation

• Conducted “Safe the Motherhood” program and activities in Bung, Chheskam and Gudel VDCs with financial support from individual Netherlands citizens and other various donor agencies.

• Constructed over 30 toilets in schools and villagers raised awareness on proper toilet use among children and villagers.
